KEBS calls for adoption of smart city standards

The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) is marking World Standards Day (WSD) by calling for the adoption of sustainable practices within the country’s cities. WSD is a day set aside to pay tribute to the collaborative efforts of thousands of experts worldwide who develop the voluntary technical agreements that are published as International Standards. The theme for this year is “Standards make cities smarter”. With expanding urban areas expected to host up to 70% of the total world population by 2050, cities must be planned sustainably. The Bureau says ufficient fresh water, universal access to cleaner energy, the ability to travel efficiently, a sense of safety and security are the kinds of promises modern cities must fulfil to stay competitive and provide a decent quality of life to their citizens.

Fuel prices on the rise

Consumers have been told to brace for a rise in the cost of fuel as the Energy Regulatory Commission revises the country’s oil prices for the last quarter of 2017. The cost of super petrol has risen by Ksh3.37 per litre for the period starting October 15 and ending November 14. The costs of diesel and kerosene on the other hand have gone up by Ksh1.85 and Ksh1.82 respectively, Commission Ag. Director General Pavel Oimeke explained.

Nairobi County in deal with Chamber of Commerce to create conducive business environment

Nairobi County is set to partner with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry to develop ways of improving business ventures in the capital. The Nairobi County government will in November, sign a Memorandum of Understanding, Chairman of Nairobi chapter, Richard Ngatia has confirmed. Ngatia said their mandate is not to do business but to advocate for enabling business environment.
