Neymar agrees five-year Paris Saint-Germain contract

Barcelona forward Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior has agreed a five-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain and is due in Paris within the next two days to finalise the most expensive transfer in world football history. It is understands that Neymar decided to leave Barcelona following talks on holiday near Rio de Janeiro in early July, before he joined the club’s pre-season tour of the United States. The Brazilian star wages will equate to 45m euros a year before tax. Barcelona have told the French club they must pay his 222m euros fee in full and they are understood to be ready to meet his release clause. He is expected to arrive in the French capital by Friday at the latest to complete his move. Neymar is expected to join five Brazilian international teammates at PSG, including Dani Alves and Thiago Silva. He will earn 865,000 euros (£775,477) a week

Atletico Madrid beat Liverpool 5-4 on penalties

Liverpool lost 5-4 on penalties to Atletico Madrid in the Audi Cup final following a 1-1 draw in Munich. Keidi Bare gave Atletico the lead on 34 minutes with a rebounded header, after Danny Ward had done brilliantly to keep the initial effort from Angel Correa out. Liverpool were awarded a controversial penalty late on following Divock Origi’s delayed fall after being caught by Gabi, allowing Roberto Firmino to equalise from the spot. Atletico scored all five of their penalties in the shoot-out, but Jordan Henderson was the unlucky man for Liverpool, seeing his spot kick saved by Miguel Angel Moya’s feet.

Nemanja Matic starts as Manchester United beat Sampdoria in Dublin

Nemanja Matic made his debut for Manchester United as they completed their pre-season friendlies with a 2-1 victory over Sampdoria in Dublin. Matic, who arrived from Chelsea last week, played the first 45 minutes at the Aviva Stadium. Henrikh Mkhitaryan headed home an early opener for United, before Dennis Praet equalised the score midway through the second half. Juan Mata netted the winner when he swept in Anthony Martial’s cross. Jose Mourinho’s side finish their pre-season campaign with six wins and one defeat from their seven matches. United face Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup final on Tuesday before starting their Premier League campaign against West Ham on Sunday, 13 August.
