Nairobi welcomes the world as IAAF U-18 championships kick off

Nairobi is finally ready to host the world as the IAAF World Under-18 Championships starts at Kasarani Stadium today.

The IAAF President, Sebastian Coe, was impressed with the work as he paid glowing tribute to the Local Organising Committee. President Uhuru is set to officially open the event today.

More than 800 track and field athletes from 130 countries are ready to brighten up the newly renovated stadium with a 60000 seater capacity for the next five days.

The past few days have been particularly hectic as the LOC put the final touches. Several activities have been lined up for today’s opening ceremony, which will be graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta as the chief guest. First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, the championship’s patron, will be escorted into the stadium at the opening ceremony by Kenyan Olympians.

Zico urges Gor to remain focused ahead of Everton clash

Gor Mahia FC assistant coach Zedekiah ‘Zico’ Otieno has urged his players to focus displaying a good game and not to be overwhelmed by playing English Premier League side Everton FC ahead of the friendly match tomorrow.

Gor, winners of the Sportpesa super cup arrived in Tanzania on Tuesday.

“We’ll stick to the same tactics that helped us win the Super Cup and our mentality must be stronger against them. Our philosophy has not changed and the plus is we have seven extra players who missed our first trip here to choose from. We just want to play some good football; we know Everton is a big club but this is what we’ve been preparing for,” Zico said.

Wayne Rooney, England’s and Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer who recently join Everton is expected to make his debut as all the players who travelled are set to feature  for at least 45 minutes in the game.

Conor McGregor promises to knock out Floyd Mayweather

Conor McGregor has promised to knock out Floyd Mayweather inside four rounds when they faced off for the first time to promote their 26 August bout.

The pair appeared in front of thousands of fans at a news conference in Los Angeles – the first of four events called to promote the Las Vegas fight.

“The movement, power, ferociousness – he has not experienced this,” said UFC lightweight champion McGregor, and Mayweather answered: “I guarantee you’re going out on your face or your back.”

The former five-weight world champion, said he was an “old man” but still had enough to beat McGregor, who has never boxed professionally.
