I warned Joho and Orengo against attending Migori rally-Oparanya
  • Kakamega Governor says party luminaries should keep off party primaries
  • The Governor however says the party does not condone violence

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has condemned the turn of events in Migori yesterday where Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s bodyguard was shot when violence erupted at an Orange Democratic Movement rally.

The governor has however said that they agreed that luminaries and officials should keep off grassroots politics to give all contestants equal and fair chances

”I am disappointed with the turn of events in Migori. As a party we don’t condone violence, we condemn such acts. In order to avoid such incidences. We had agreed as a party that our luminaries and officials to keep off grassroots politics to give all contestants equal and fair chances,” Oparanya said in a statement.

Oparanya said he had he told Siaya senator James Orengo, Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu) and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho to keep off the event but they ignored.

“I was also invited to the Migori event but as I have always stated, our party is anchored on democracy and fairness, this is what I told Orengo, Nyong’o and Joho unfortunately they ignored my input,” Oparanya

“In as much as Obado is a colleague at the Council of Governors, I don’t think he was accorded respect he deserved by the organisers of the event. I look at it from my side, in case my friend Bonny Khalwale marshal other NASA leaders to come around Kakamega to endorse him, chaos would definitely erupt more so if I am sidelined,” Oparanya added

Oparanya said Obado was not accorded a fair treatment over the incident and that if the party leadership is going to continue with what it did in Migori, then it will be falling into the trap of adversary

Governor Joho in a statement yesterday also condemned the violence saying it was an attempt to assassinate ODM leaders.

“The operation had the hallmarks of an assassination attempt,” the Mombasa County boss said, adding that his vehicle was hit by two bullets.
