Wajir aspirants want county elections board formed to oversee party primaries

A section of Jubilee Party aspirants from Wajir County has expressed their discontent with the Jubilee party leadership over delay constitute the county Election Board.

The aspirants led by businessman Mohammed Hassan said on Monday that a scheduled meeting to pick the county board slated on Thursday last week nullified without any communication from the party headquarters in Nairobi raising eyebrows that the party might have their preferred list of candidates.

“We fear that the nomination process may not be free, fair and transparent,” He told X news on Monday.

“The incumbents am told have been given direct nomination,” he alleged.

Hassan is seeking Wajir North parliamentary seat currently held by Ibrahim Saney, who recently defected to Jubilee party from ODM alongside Adan Keynan (Eldas) and Mohamed Elmi (Tarbaj).

However, Jubilee Party Secretary General Raphael Tuju has refuted the claims by the politician saying the Wajir county election board elections were postponed due to technical hitches.

In an interview with X news, Tuju said the party had no preferred candidates in any elective seats adding that all candidates will be subjected to a competitive process.

“We postponed the meeting to elect the Wajir County Elections Board till later this week. The aspirants should get in touch with their county coordinator” he said.
