  • Uber Kenya launched a pitch campaign to support entrepreneurship and innovation in the country
  • The drive, officially known as UberPITCH, is supported by entrepreneur empowerment group, Mettā, in conjunction with Nairobi Innovation Week
  • To get involved, applicants were required to submit video applications to Uber on or before March 1, 2017

On March 6, 2017, startup heroes, CEOs and investors listened to ideas from innovators , all in the back of an Uber taxi. The UberPITCH theme ‘Innovation to solve pressing local and global challenges’ saw entrepreneurs receive the opportunity to pitch innovative business ideas to investors. 

Following a shortlisting process, accepted applicants received an exclusive promo code which they keyed in to their Uber accounts. On Monday March 6 between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, selected participants chose the UberPITCH option in their Uber apps to get the chance to present their ideas to investors in a 15-minute Uber ride. Finalists with the top pitches were invited for a special event held at the Mettā on March 9th where they interacted with some of Kenya’s leading investors and business leaders.

The UberPITCH campaign was designed to solve pressing local and global challenges by giving entrepreneurs the invaluable opportunity to pitch innovative business ideas to investors while riding an Uber.

The event organized by the University of Nairobi brings together partners from government, private sector, development partners and research centres with an aim of providing an avenue for showcasing and encouraging innovation in Kenya.

Annabel Angwenyi an entrepreneur who runs a security firm in Nairobi, pitches her innovative solution to Uber General Manager for East Africa, Loic Amado during the UberPITCh campaign.

The campaign is aimed at providing opportunities to entrepreneurs by providing resources they need to accelerate the growth of their ventures.
