Ulinzi Stars eye high end friendly matches with an Arabic club ahead of CAF Confederations Cup encounter with Smouha SC
  • Ulinzi Stars will play Smouha SC of Egypt in the first round of the CAF Confederations Cup in March.
  • The soldiers eliminated  Al Hilal Beghazi of Libya in the two-legged preliminary round on Saturday.
  • The Military side are preparing for high profile friendly matches ahead of thier encounter with Smouha SC.
  • Tanzania, Ugandan and Arabic Clubs have been shortlished for the frienldy macthes.
  • The Benjamin Nyangweso side  last played in the continental stage back in  2011 were they were trounced 5-0 on aggregate by by Egyptian giants Zamalek in  the CAF Champions League.

 

Ulinzi Stars are aware how close they were  from kissing goodbye their return to continental football after six years absence, that is after edging Al Hilal Beghazi  of Libya 5-4 in posts match penalties on Saturday.

The soldiers have vowed not to get contend with the result and as a result focus on better preparations ahead of their first round CAF Confederations Cup clash against Smouha SC of Egypt first away leg on the weekend of March 10 to 12.

It was a nervy ending for the paramilitary side after their two-legged preliminary round tie ended 1-1 on aggregate.

Ulinzi head coach, Benjamin Nyangweso, ha laid down a plan that that involves high profile friendly matches to ensure the Soldiers are better prepared for their next match.

“Our major undoing is preparedness,” Nyangweso reflected. And I am not only talking about Ulinzi, but majority if not all Kenyan clubs.”

“We are planning to play top clubs from Uganda and Tanzania, though we are also monitoring another club from an unnamed Arabic Country which will give us a better challenge for our upcoming match,” he continued.

Nyangweso worries were shared by majority of the first team players who said they were nervous having conceded a goal away to no answer, leaving the return leg match a must win for them.

“The calmness expressed by my players in such situation was commendable. We intend to go further in the competition,” Nyangweso said of the side that were battered 5-0 on aggregate by Egyptian giants Zamalek in the 2011 CAF Champions League.

For now the 2010 Kenyan premier League champions have no much time on their side and have to intensify their preparations for the upcoming match.

Kenya’s other representatives Tusker FC were on Sunday elimnated from the  CAF Champions League in the preliminary by Mauritius champions AS Port Louis 2000 on Sunday.
