‘I am Nairobi’ Jubilee faction hosts DP Ruto to lunch as scramble for Nairobi heightens

  • The ‘I am Nairobi’ faction that had lunch with the DP consisted of Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja, Dagoreti South MP. Dennis Waweru, Nominated Senator Joy Gwendo and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria.

The Hon. Johnson Sakaja led Jubilee faction that is seeking to either front the current Dagoretti South legislator Dennis Waweru, Nairobi Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru or nominated MP Johnson Sakaja as its preferred candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial race on a Jubilee ticket, yesterday hosted Deputy President William Ruto to lunch in Dagoretti South constituency.

The lunch date, political analysts say, was a message to the rival camp consisting of Nairobi women representative Racheal Shebesh, Starehe MP Maina Kamanda and city Jubilee Members of Parliament who are fronting former Kenya National Congress Party leader Peter Kenneth for Nairobi governor that they will not relent in the quest to have their preferred candidate as the Jubilee flag bearer for the Nairobi County Gubernatorial seat.

The Deputy President, His Excellency William Ruto, after a week long hiatus that had elicited rumours that he was unwell, had reappeared and was joining the legislators for lunch after a church service in Karen. A battle of supremacy looms between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto with President Kenyatta said to be gunning for Peter Kenneth while his deputy is said to be pro the ‘I am Nairobi’ faction.

Dagoretti South MP Hon. Dennis Waweru, Gatundu South MP Hon. Moses Kuria and nominated Senator Hon. Joy Gwendo who were part of the delegation that received the Deputy President in Dagoretti South Constituency during a meet the people tour assured residents that their camp would emerge victorious during the party primaries and would field the Jubilee candidate for Nairobi Governor.

The leaders also thanked the people of Dagoretti South for registering as voters during the IEBC Mass Voter Registration exercise that ended yesterday 19th February 2017.
