Uhuru aide ditches Jubilee party for Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap

Barely a month after President Uhuru Kenyatta lost his close ally former TNA Secretary General Onyango Oloo to Raila Odinga’s Orange Democratic Party (ODM) party, the president has yet again lost another close confederate.

Former Education Assistant Minister and Meru gubernatorial aspirant Dr. Kilemi Mwiria  has today February 2nd, 2017  ditched President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party in favour of Governor Mutua’s Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) Movement party.

Mwiria  defection comes  a blow considering that Meru county is one of the political stronghold of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

In the recent past, Meru County has  experienced some grumbling from elected leaders with a prevalent feeling that the Jubilee top duo had neglected the area despite getting overwhelming support in the presidential election of 2013.

In 2013 general elections, Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee coalition; Uhuru in TNA and his running mate William S. Ruto in URP got  384,290 (89%) compared to  32,447 (8%) for Raila Odinga of the CORD coalition; Raila in ODM and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka in WDM-K.

Mwiria, Meru Senator Kiraitu Murungi and security expert Mwenda Mbijiwe  were all expected to battle for the Jubilee party ticket.

But his departure, leaves Senator Kiraitu Murungi and security expert Mwenda Mbijiwe as the only  gubernatorial candidates in the Meru governorship position on a Jubilee party ticket.

He cited ‘political bullying’ as a reason for  defection  from jubilee to  Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement.

Among the two, whoever will emerge victorious on a jubilee ticket party  together with Dr. Kilemi Mwiria will face off at the August 8th polls with the incumbent Peter Munya of Party of National Unity (PNU).

Until his defection, Mwiria  was a senior presidential Adviser on education to President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Speaking at the party headquarters when he was received by the Machakos Governor, Dr. Alfred Mutua,  gubernatorial aspirant  exuded confidence he will the Meru governor’s seat and urged his supporters to vote wisely during the forthcoming elections.

“I am coming to a party that is not only friendly but also development conscious and supports President Uhuru Kenyatta re-election” Kilemi said.

“I hope the people of Meru will give you another governor,” Kilemi told his new party boss Dr. Alfred Mutua.

He noted the party Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement being a progressive and Democratic Party that focuses on speedy development to the people. Meru residents would easily be convinced to vote him.

His defection coming only a day after he revealed that he would make known his new party by Friday after ditching Jubilee Party.

“I have no problem with the Jubilee party led by Mr Kenyatta, but there is a problem with Jubilee in Meru,” Dr Mwiria told the President at Kaaga Primary School a fortnight ago.

On his part Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement party Governor Alfred Mutua welcomed the career politician saying that Kenyans are  tired of leaders engaging in empty rhetoric and divisive politics while our people suffer.

“Some of us have shown that it is possible to change lives with Maendeleo Chap Chap,” Mutua said.

The party leader described Kilemi has a straightforward, honest, brilliant and an action person.

“We have no doubt that Dr. Kilemi Mwiria will change the face of Meru and contribute to the development of our country. Like myself and Maendeleo Chap Chap, we support Uhuru Kenyatta and I request the people of Meru to support us,” he urged.
