USIU, Freida Brown Student Center completed

United States International University – Africa, recently opened its new student center. As reported on the school’s website, ‘The 77, 12 square feet of floor space is spread between three wings and four floors, and ultimately cost KES 735 million to build over an a period of twenty months. The building is also the new home of centralized student support services such as the Academic Counseling, Counseling Services, Placement and Career Services, Sports and Club activities, as well as the offices of the Student Affairs Council.

A new ultra-modern outfitted medical center as well as a fitness and wellness center, will now occupy three times as much space as their current locations. The medical center will for the first time have a laboratory, therapy room, larger pharmacy and more treatment rooms. The fitness center now has a dedicated cardio and strength training rooms as well as much larger gym. A new top notch hotel and restaurant training facility now gives graduates of the undergraduate program the tools to own and run a five-star hotel and restaurant business. With a dedicated demonstration kitchen/classroom, a professional fully-outfitted kitchen and an adjacent cafeteria.’

20 UON students benefit from Chinese Embassy scholarships

The Chinese Embassy through the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Programme has awarded 20 scholarships to bright but needy University of Nairobi students. The Ambassador congratulated the recipients and challenged them to be the hope and future of Kenya, Africa and the China-Kenya relations. He noted that the scholarship programme was set up to encourage excellent students from needy families not to give up due to financial constraints but to strive for success. Since its establishment in 2014, 58 UoN students have benefitted from the programme.

The students, drawn from various disciplines were identified as genuine needy students selected after due verification of family backgrounds to ascertain their neediness by the Special Students Advisor, Prof. Godfrey Muriuki.
