Sauti Sol wins big at the 2016 MAMAs

Sauti Sol have once again clinched another win for themselves as the band walked away with the Best Group award at the recently concluded MAMA awards. Going head to head with Afro pop groups from all over the continent Mi Casa, Navy Kenzo, R2Bees and Toofan, the quartet beat out the competition to claim the top spot. The band was also nominated in the category Best Collaboration in partnership with Absolut for the song “Unconditionally Bae” with Alikiba but lost to DJ Maphorisa feat. Wizkid & DJ Bucks for “Soweto Baby”. Although the awards show was dominated with West African artistes Sauti Sol emerged as the only East African act to win an award at the show. They also performed a rendition of the song ‘Africa’ with Nigerian sensation Yemi Alade at the Ticketpro Dome.

Kanye West declares he’ll skip GRAMMYs if Frank Ocean is not nominated

Never one to mince his words, rapper Kanye West made another announcement at a concert following last week’s admission that he and fellow rapper Jay Z are not in the best of terms. During a stop in Oakland while on his Saint Pablo Tour the rapper made a case for his friend and singer Frank Ocean taking an example from pop artiste Lady Gaga. “Gaga wasn’t nominated for Best New Artist, right? But they wanted her to perform at the show; they wanted her to open. So the Grammys secretly changed something about the nominations in order to nominate her, in order for her to perform in the show. Now, Frank Ocean, on the other hand, is very vocal that his album wasn’t nominated for the Grammys, right? Since he’s vocal, no one wants to say nothing about it,” he continues, “If his album’s not nominated in no categories, I’m not showing up to the Grammys.”
