How bicycle exercises tone and strengthen your body

Bicycles have been around for a long time, their convenience and cost effectiveness makes them a prime form of transportation. Although cars are more common, bicycles have the added advantage of giving you a workout while you move around. So what are the hotspots that riding a bicycle can improve on?

Leg muscles

Since legs are the primary mode of propulsion they are the going to get the most action from the workout. Cycling helps with strengthening and toning of the quadriceps, hamstrings and calves. Not only does this build muscle and burn fat in the lower extremities of the body but cycling also firms up the backside, which is always a plus. Squeezing into some skinny jeans will be a thing of the past once you get up on the bike.

A stronger core

All the balancing and guiding the bicycle will result in a stronger core. It’s the core of the body that provides stability and a stronger core will improve your skills on a bicycle. Better coordination and a stronger abdominal, back and shoulder muscles are another advantage of taking up cycling.

Increased endurance

Because riding a bicycle is a low impact exercise, it is easier to practice for longer periods of time than other forms of cardio such as running. It would be a good idea to start off with a set time limit that you could subsequently improve on. Breathing exercises will come invaluable during this time to help you pace yourself.
