Yemi Alade – Want You

Want You is a little different from Yemi Alade’s other songs. The video and dancing is just as lively as Yemi’s personality is bright but the sound production is definitely new. The song has an electro touch in its beat which sometimes hits and sometimes misses. The Afro beat gets drowned in the synthesizers which might be great for a Western audience but maybe not for the African one.

Chege Feat. Diamond Platnumz – Waache Waoane

This upbeat tune from Wasafi records tells of a jilted former lover who Chege and Diamond adopt the persona of. The beat is actually a bit of a step away from the usual Bongo flava dins, incorporating a hard to miss saxophone in the tune. The video has those signature Diamond Platnumz dance moves although he’s the feature on the track. It’s a sometimes humorous but still moving song.

Octopizzo – Butere

Octopizzo’s new jam celebrates Kenyan culture in a new, completely unique way. This song that was ostensibly shot in the aforementioned place shows the ‘bundus’ in a way few artists would dare to attempt. The cinematography of the song is probably its strongest assest. It’s beautiful and picturesque but ultimately simple. As Octopizzo finds a new voice in the industry we can only wait and hope for more.
