Kenyan journalists among CNN Awards finalists

The finalists for the prestigious CNN Multichoice African Journalist awards were announced yesterday by Ferial Haffajee, Editor-in-Chief of South African Newspaper City Press and Chair of the independent judging panel of the competition.

Thirty eight countries across Africa submitted their entries leading to a total of 1637 candidates. Several Kenyan journalists made it to the finalists list including Asha Ahmed Mwilu & Rashid Idi from Kenya Television Network, Cheboite Kigen from Daily Nation, Dominic Omondi from The Standard and Isaac Otidi Amuke from Commonwealth Writers, Kenya.

Last year’s event took place at the KICC with five Kenyans taking trophies home but perhaps the most notable winner of the awards is former KTN journalist John-Allan Namu who bagged the most coveted prize of African Journalist of the Year in 2009.

The complete list of finalists is available on the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist Awards website. The award ceremony will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa  in October.
