The future has arrived

What inspired the name ‘Just Imagine Africa’?

The Name Just Imagine Africa is a message itself. Telling Africa simply that Imagination is freedom. And it is time for us as African people to be free. Free our minds. Follow what you visualize and it will materialize.

How did you get your start as a band?

We started out at a place called Voices Of Change All Over (Vocal) where many bands like Sarabi, Zikki and Octave have their roots. We came together with the same vision and decided to join hands and push our vision as one.

Describe your sound

We’d describe our sound as Afro-Fusion. Though we aren’t classified into any genre of music. We are just a band with no genre. We touch on Reggae, Sebene, Afro Pop, Alternative Rock, Kwaito and Afro Beats.

What would you say is the message in your music?

The message in our music is for peace love and unity amongst Africans and the rest of the world. Our latest song ‘Madame Wa Kenya’ speaks about the truth about the beautiful Kenyan lady as we accept her, which includes their cons. The official video is on our YouTube channel.

Who/What is the main inspiration of the band?

God is our main inspiration basically because He is Everlasting and we want inspiration that will always be there. But in terms of musicians, Sarabi Band inspires us a lot.

What are you currently working on?

We are currently working on our album to be released hopefully when this year ends. It will be an audio visual album.

What artistes would you love to collaborate with?

We’d love to collaborate with Octopizzo and Muthoni the Drummer Queen.

What do you think of the current Kenyan music industry?

The Kenyan music industry is still young and it’s growing at a large pace because there’s so much talent out there. Though it’s very tough to be in this industry. But we survive. It’s do or die.

Where do you see the band in 10 years?

In ten years’ time we’ll be internationally known with a few Grammies here and there. And we will be the face of Africa. Just Imagine Africa!
