The Ricky na Marafiki Evening of Afro Jazz show at the Alliance Françoise Gardens was an exceptional 3-hour concert. Not only did the event feature surprise guest performers such as drummer girls, MoTra but also had the astonishingly good MC Jack Gaitara, who also happens to be a jazz artiste. He and his back-up singers, The Spectaculars, did a couple of Bob Marley covers and imbued them with a soulful, ballad-ish hint that lulled the crowd smoothly.

Ricky na Marafiki, being the quintessential gentlemen that they were, played a quick set and let the other artistes get some shine. He and his saxophone player, Steve Munge, were a site to watch though as they played around each other in complete sync.

The alternative band Third Hand Music, created a whole new genre of sound before the audience that was somehow entirely original and completely alien to fresh ears. Noel Nderitu, who closed the show, also did something unexpected and did the only thing that was true to him. His gospel-infused, bluesy tunes moved the crowd to wave their hands in the air in melodious communion.
