Maseno University students warned aginst hooliganism

The newly appointed Kisumu county police commandant Joseph Limo has called on Students of Maseno University who have in the past kept a record of violence to shun the same. The students are known to often go on the rampage during and after their student’s council elections.

The commandant said that there should not be a waste of time in rioting and chases that involve the students and the police seeing as the students are the future leaders. He gave a stern warning saying that action would be taken on anyone who would be caught engaging in criminal activities or hooliganism, rioting, bullying and vandalism in the elections that are scheduled for the month of October.

Accommodation crisis hits JKUAT

It is that time of the year when schools are re-opening for semester three, and in addition to the continuing lot, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and technology opened its doors to more than 2000 freshmen. The continuing students have thus raised the red flag complaining about the accommodation situation saying that the new hostels and rentals are expensive.

The management had promised them a reduction on the same but nothing much seems to have been done. This confusion has since led to the frustrations of many a first year students as they have been unable to find a place to settle and call home for the next academic year. The JKUAT administration should move fast to sort this crisis as soon as possible.

UoN student loses fee in sport gamble

Early this week, a third year student of the University of Nairobi lost 40,000 shillings in a ‘sport pesa’ bet. The student lost the bet after Manchester united lost to Swansea in a heated match. Gilbert Okinyi was set to win 60,000 shillings had his team won. In the past one-year many students have reported cases of losing their school fees to the betting site, as luck has not been on their site.

This student was attracted to the betting game seeing as his friend had previously won 50,000 shillings. Gilbert however in a bid to regain his fee, requested the CEO ‘sport pesa’ to refund at least part of the money to aid with his registration for the new semester at the university. Even though betting sites have stringent rules, terms and conditions let’s hope that his plea will be heard.
